JavaFX 1.2 Blogging Contest FAQ

  1. How do I enter the contest?

    A: Post a blog describing your experience using the new JavaFX 1.2 SDK -- a tutorial, insight, tech tip, cool code sample, request for enhancements, etc. Complete the submission form. Entries must be new material and not copied from something already written.

  2. Who is eligible to participate in the contest?

    A: This contest is open only to individuals who are of majority legal age in their country, province or state of legal residence and residents of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cambodia, Chile, China, Colombia, Egypt, a European Union member state, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, the United States, and Venezuela. Void in Puerto Rico, Quebec and where prohibited by law.

  3. Can I post a blog on my experience with JavaFX 1.1?

    A: You can certainly post a blog on your experience using an older version of JavaFX, but it will not be a valid entry for the blogging contest. To enter the contest you'll need to post a blog on your experience using the new JavaFX 1.2 SDK.

  4. Do you have suggestions on what to post?

    A: Here are some suggestions.
    • What features you like most about JavaFX 1.2 and why
    • Blog about a cool design concept you'd like to share with the Java Community
    • Create a "Top 10" of JavaFX Tutorials/Links/Snippets/Tricks
    • Blog about how we can enhance or improve JavaFX

  5. Will blogs be accepted in all languages?

    A: Blogs will be accepted in ENGLISH only.

  6. Will blog entries be featured on javafx.com?

    A: The blog contest is to encourage users to share their experiences about using JavaFX, so we will occasionally feature select blog entries on the contest page. However, a submitted blog post that appears on javafx.com is not confirmation that the entry has been selected for judging.

  7. What are the prizes?

    First Prize: The top 10 winners will each receive $500 (US Dollars).
    Up to 50 honorable mention prizes of a $25 Amazon Gift certificate will be rewarded. (Restrictions apply for international users.)


  8. Who are the judges?

    A: All entries will be judged by a panel of experts, which includes members of the JavaFX engineering and product marketing teams.

  9. What criteria will the judges use to judge the contest?

    A: The panel of experts will judge each entry based on the following equally weighted judging criteria:
    • Novelty and originality of the blog entry
    • Usefulness and character of the substantive feedback
    • The blog's interest and appeal to other users of JavaFX 1.2 SDK
    • Clarity in the expression about the user experience
    • How the blog demonstrates or showcases specific features
    • And/or the ability to use the blog to improve any aspect of JavaFX 1.2 SDK.

  10. What is the deadline for submissions?

    A: The submission deadline is 11:59 P.M. (PT) which is 8:59 A.M. (GMT) on June 26, 2009.

  11. When will the winners be announced?

    Winners will be announced on or before July 17, 2009. You can view a list of the winners on the JavaFX Blogging Contest site (www.javafx.com).

  12. How will the winners be notified?

    Winners will be notified via email on or after July 17, 2009.
